Explore the
lowland-swampy tropical rain forest in middle-south part of Papua
Irian to meet the most unique tribes
who live in the tree houses around 6 to 25 meter from the
ground (some can reach heights up to 50 meters!), the Korowai
Tribes.
Be ready to get
wet as we will trekking in the swampy land and use canoes to reach
the tree houses of family groups scattered deep in their
600 m2 swampy jungle
that sits between 100 and 200 meters above sea-level.
Visiting the Korowai
region is such a journey back to the past ages as you find
yourselves in the middle of people where the women wear only a small
skirt made from treeskin and Sagofibres and the men use only a leaf
around the penis or a small penis gourd, still use stone stone axe,
bone knifes, grave stick and decorate their body with bones from the
wings of a flying fox, dog's or pig's teeth.
When you meet them,
some of them will seem shy or very exciting, and perhaps look away
as you approach. They remain on guard and suspicious of ways
different to their own as this tribes was just discovered recently
as 25 years ago, more recent then the Dani, Yali and Lani Tribes in
Baliem Valley.
Your days in the
jungle will be spent together with the hosts learning how they hunt
and fish and gather other food sources. They will welcome you us a
part of their family and you also can take advantage of any special
events or occurrences which may happen while you are there. Stay
with them, learn and observe their daily life is such a touching
moment that perhaps could influence your life, forever.

DAY 01: JAYAPURA
ARRIVAL
Upon arrive at
Jayapura airport, transfer to a hotel. Rest of the day will be free
for final preparation (L,D).
DAY 02: JAYAPURA -
WAMENA
Fly to Wamena at
Baliem Valley. Sightseeing around the town and visit Suroba & Jiwika
in the North of Baliem valley. Overnight at hotel in Wamena (B,L,D).
DAY 03: WAMENA –
YANIRUMA – KOROWAI
Depart by charter
Missionary plane to Yaniruma. Take a canoe ride across Dairam river
and proceed trekking inside to meet the the tree house community
exist. Overnight at Tree House (B,L,D).
DAY 04: JUNGLE TREK
Proceed trekking into
the jungle across the river and the swampy areas with high humidity,
hot temperature and lots of mosquitoes to visit another settlements.
Overnight at tree house (B,L,D).
DAY 05: KOROWAI
TREE HOUSE TRIBE EXPLORATION
Join the korowai
activities such as collecting sago and to learn their ways to
survive; hunting, fishing and other activities. Overnight at Tree
House (B,L,D).
DAY 06: KOROWAI
TREE HOUSE TRIBE EXPLORATION
Another day to live
with the tribes and explore their home (B,L,D).
DAY 07: BACK TO
YANIRUMA
Trekking and crossing
the river back to Yaniruma. Overnight at guest house in Yaniruma (B,L,D).
DAY 08: YANIRUMA –
WAMENA
Fly back on the
Missionary air craft to Wamena. Overnight at hotel in Wamena (B,L,D).
DAY 09: WAMENA –
JAYAPURA
Fly on regular flight
back to Jayapura. sightseeing around the city. Overnight at hotel (B,L,D).

ARRIVAL
Arrive at Timika
Airport, check into a hotel for your accommodation (L,D).
DAY 02: TIMIKA -
AGATS
Drive to the harbour
and take a full day motorized canoe journey along the south coast
line to Agats in Asmat area. Stop en route at villages for lunch and
refreshment. Overnight at Asmat Inn (B,L,D).
DAY 03: AGATZ –
SENGGO
Travel up river by
Motorized canoe to Senggo passing the forest and seeing kind of
birds. Overnight at a simple guest house in Senggo (B,L,D).
DAY 04: SENGGO –
BASMAN
Proceed travel up
river to Basman passing more wild life and local Citak Mitak tribes.
Overnight at simple house in Basman (B,L,D).
DAY 05 – 08:
KOROWAI TREE HOUSE TRIBES EXPLORATION
Trekking from Basman
to experience the days of exploration in searching for the community
of the Korowai tribes; trekking in the dense swampy forest, crossing
rivers. We join their daily activities such as gathering foods of
sago, fishing, and hunting or setting animals traps, etc. These are
challenging but enjoyable days! Overnight in tents or on the tree
houses.
DAY 09: BACK TO
BASMAN
Trekking back to
Basman. Overnight at simple local house in Basman (B,L,D).
DAY 10: BASMAN –
SENGGO - JINAK
With motorized canoe
down stream of Dairam river to Jinak via Senggo, passing the local
Citak Mitak Tribes, birds and the beautiful rain forest. Overnight
at local house at village of Jinak (B,L,D).
DAY 11: JINAK- ATSY
– ASMAT VILLAGE
Another long ride to
Asmat village via Atsy on the big rivers of Wildemann and Sirets.
Overnight at Men house or school (B,L,D).
DAY 12: ASMAT
CEREMONIES
Enjoy the traditional
ceremonies such as ritual songs, drumming, canoe racing and Mbist
pole (B,L,D).
DAY 13: ASMAT
VILLAGE – AGATS
We sail back to Agats.
In the afternoon walking around Agats to see the local people life
and also visit Art Museum of the asmat Tribes. Overnight at Asmat
Inn (B,L,D).
DAY 14: AGATS –
TIMIKA
Full day sail back on
motorized canoe to Timika along the coast line with stops en route
at villages for lunch and refreshment. Overnight hotel in Timika (B,L,D).

Fly to Wamena at

DAY 03: DANI TRIBES
CEREMONIES – WAMENA
Enjoy the Dani tribes
ceremonies and other traditional activities of the Dani Tribes.
Drive back to Wamena (B,L,D).
DAY 04: WAMENA -
YANIRUMA
On chartered
Missionary flight depart to Yaniruma airstrip, one of the entry
points to the Korowai tribes settlement. Explore the area
surroundings. Overnight at a guest house (B,L,D).
DAY 05: YANIRUMA –
DAMBOL
Crossing the Dairam
Kabur river on canoe. Proceed trekking through the tropical rain
forest. Overnight at tree house or shelters (B,L,D).
DAY 06 – 08:
KOROWAI TREE HOUSE TRIBES EXPLORATION
Trekking from Dambol
to experience the days of exploration in searching for the community
of the Korowai tribes; trekking in the dense swampy forest, crossing
rivers. We join their daily activities such as gathering foods of
